According to the EPA, VOCs “include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects.” We discovered the reality is that a paint’s “low-” or “zero-” VOC designation actually has nothing to do with indoor air quality. Many are manmade, and they are common in the manufacturing of paint, among other things. VOCs, or “volatile organic compounds,” are materials with a high vapor pressure (they evaporate easily at room temperature) and low water solubility.
